Founded in 1974, Rompetrol became member of the KMG International family in 2007 and currently has around 4,000 employees in Romania. Today, Romania is the base of operations for KMG International, being home to the Group's main brand: Rompetrol is used for the retail, refining, petrochemicals activities and well services in the upstream area.

Rompetrol Rafinare – the third largest taxpayer in Romania – oversees Petromidia, the largest refinery in Romania, along with the Vega refinery, and the sole petrochemical division in the country. Rompetrol Downstream has a network of around 900 gas stations and includes the warehouses in Simleul Silvaniei, Vatra Dornei, Mogosoaia, Zarnesti, Craiova and Arad. Rompetrol Gas deals with cylinders, auto LPG and propane.
